How The SE Program Works

Phase One | Business Concept Development (4 weeks)

Participants will begin to plan out the basic elements of their business concept including identifying product or service options, conducting preliminary market research, exploring financial projections, mapping out business operations and confirming program eligibility. This is the APPLICATION PHASE of the program.

The Self-Employment Program is a 48-week program that starts at Phase Two

Phase Two | Business Plan Development (10-weeks)

In week one, participants participate in small business development and business planning training. They then prepare a comprehensive business plan over a nine-week period. Participants access resources and work directly with their business coach to complete their plan. The final step in this phase is a review and acceptance meeting, where the client pitches their business concept. Approved plans will act as the road map for participants to launch and grow their business over the remaining 38 weeks of the program (and onward).

Phase Three | Business Launch and Implementation (38-weeks)

Participants work directly with their business coach and other community resources to launch their new business. Over the 38-week period, business coaches provide business and leadership coaching support, conduct site visits, and conduct ongoing financial and operational reviews to support the effective launch and successful operation of the new business. Participants will also have access to online resources, industry mentors, and referrals to vetted professionals as required.

Training Locations: ONLINE from your home office or at a WorkBC Career Centre in Parksville, Port Alberni, Ucluelet, Tofino and Campbell River
